What is a Graham Peer Advisor (GPA)?

Here at the Graham Office, we help Gatton students like you with everything necessary to learn who you are, plan where you’ll go, and get where you’re going. This involves getting that job or internship you want, learning what career path looks right for you, and even choosing what major you should pursue based on your interests. In addition to the main Graham team who runs the office, we also have students called Graham Peer Advisors who assist as well.

The Graham Peer Advisor program is a leadership program for current Gatton students who are interested in promoting the mission of the Graham Office of Career Management while actively assisting students with their career aspirations and life-long learning goals.

The purpose of this program is to provide help students on a peer-to-peer level with:

  • Career exploration
  • Career advising
  • Career development assistance

In addition to helping students, advisors are trained to present on a variety of career development topics, assist with student outreach, and promote the importance of early and continuous career planning and preparation.

The program is a one-year commitment, carried out over consecutive fall and spring semesters. You would work a minimum amount of three hours per week. In addition to the three hours, you would occasionally help with staff programs and recruiting events hosted by Gatton. There is also a one hour bi-weekly team meeting that all peer advisors attend. During your work hours, you may help with a variety of tasks such as peer advising, social media updates, newsletter preparation, employer correspondence, creating flyers and marketing materials, and helping keep the website up to date. While helping students, peer advisors may assist with topics such as finding a job or internship, career fair tips, resumes, and career decisions.

Becoming a Graham Peer Advisor comes with many benefits. Through the program, you learn leadership, technical, listening, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills. While helping others with their career goals, you also get a better understanding of how you would like to grow and develop your own. The Graham Office is filled with great people, and being a part of the team is a very fun and rewarding experience.

Each spring, Gatton sends out a common application for students to apply for different leadership positions. Through this application, you can apply to be a Graham Peer Advisor.

If you choose to apply, keep in mind that there are just a few qualifications you would have to meet:

  • Demonstrated (or looking to gain) leadership experience
