Job Overview: EdTech Sales/Marketing/Support/#EntrepreneurLand Job
Hey everyone, my name is Michael Lewis, I am a UK alum, and I am the Co-founder of two companies, both in the EdTech space. We need an entrepreneurally-minded, energetic person who isn’t looking for a job, but instead, is looking for a lifestyle. Our holding company is called THESIS but let me give you an overview of our current brands and then an overview of the position.
BusinessU delivers standards-based, web-based, activity-based high school business courses (i.e. Principles of Entrepreneurship, Principles of Marketing, Personal Finance, etc), via our proprietary LMS (kind of like a Canvas on steroids, but also integrated with Google Classroom and MS Teams, etc). We deliver our own content, videos (Types of Currencies – Peyton, Functions of Money – Destin), summative and formative assessments, individual and group activities, group managing and student leader efficacy tracking, and we provide real-time measuring and monitoring tools in the Teacher Dashboard so that teachers know when to intervene, and with whom, and about what. (Many of the high schools/teachers who purchase an annual license to BU are also DECA or FBLA advisors, in case you joined one of these organizations in high school).
Our other company is called Collabra Music. Collabra is an interactive, remote learning and practice management platform for K-16 music and performing arts education. Collabra’s video platform enables efficient split-screen scaling of lessons (with no latency/delay issues like one might have with i.e. Zoom). Collabra adds accountability and affirmation to the process of practice, and empowers remote multi-juror juries and timed-assessments, blind auditions, and district-wide remote multi-track collaborations.
We are working on two additional ventures, one in the K-5 music ed space, and one in the K-12 STEM space, but powered by our same LMS technology, along with our publishing arm, and our overall sales/mktg and edtech experience. Everything we do intends to deliver disruptive excellence in both content and content delivery in a hybrid world. Content is king but content delivery (which has been overlooked forever in education) is queen, and the queen is in charge. We were already hybrid-ready before Covid, and believe we are well-positioned to continue serving these markets in a world where Hybrid (we believe) is here to stay.
This role is part of the quintessential first tranche of non-founders who will be given equity (RSUs vesting over time). The total package includes salary in the $40-$50K/year range (full disclosure, no medical benefits), a quarterly/year-end bonus opportunity, and the previously mentioned stock units (so in the event of a successful exit one day, this could be a nicely sized check – no guarantees of course, that’s how it goes in entrepreneur-land :)).
This role is for the a self-starting generalist who is obsessed with learning and sharing learnings, is assertive, collaborative, and who is infatuated with the idea of solving problems. The job isn’t a job, it’s a lifestyle. Our small team is open and in constant communication via Slack and numerous other remote/collaborative/productivity tools. While this role is largely in the arena of sales/marketing and project management, one day she might be giving a live Zoom demo/training to 100 teachers in Miami-Dade County; later that day he might be creating a digital ad for FB/Insta and tracking its efficacy/ROI, etc; later that same day they might be filming/editing content/curriculum videos, or promo or training videos; later that same day she might be writing/editing/entering new content into the LMS; later that same day she might be talking to a teacher on the phone about an immediate issue or about suggestions for improvement; later that day he might work on a spreadsheet/dashboard that tracks leads and conversions; later that evening they might be sending/following up on an email campaign; and later that same evening she might send a group Slack message about an efficiency improvement and/or tech/feature update based on the teacher feedback she received earlier in the day when she was handling the incoming questions/issues on the web site chat bubble. So that’s as close as I can get to a job description – we are a team, together solving problems in the EdTech space, pushing a big rock up a bigger hill, and it’s all hands on deck 🙂
