The Comptroller of the Treasury’s Internship Program is a 10-week paid educational and experiential learning opportunity offering undergraduate and graduate students a chance to witness and participate in various operations of the Office. The Internship Program will take place in Summer 2021 and is designed to be both professionally and academically beneficial, providing interns with hands-on, practical experience in the Division of Local Government Finance.
An internship with the Division of Local Government Finance (LGF) in the Comptroller’s Office will provide candidates with invaluable experience in the areas of law, finance, and legislative writing. LGF is responsible for implementing laws relating to the financial operation of local units of government and other governmental entities.
Division responsibilities include:
•Approving the budgets and debt obligations of local governments
•Approving investments submitted by cities, counties, and utility districts
•Reporting on plans by municipal electric systems to provide video, cable, and internet services
•Assisting local governments in areas of municipal finance
•Providing research and support to the Tennessee General Assembly
The Division of Local Government Finance also serves as staff to the Water & Wastewater Financing Board and the Utility Management Review Board.
