This position will serve as a Junior Economist in the Office of Macroeconomic Analysis within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy. The office provides analytical, research, and forecasting support to senior Treasury officials relating to current and future developments in the U.S. economy, including developments concerning economic growth, labor markets, inflation, household income, and monetary policy.
The economists in the Office of Macroeconomic Analysis possess expertise concerning U.S. economic data and economic theories to gauge the effect of past policies on the U.S. economy, provide early warning of sub-par economic performance, understand the forces shaping economic outcomes, and forecast the future path of the U.S. economy.
The Junior Fellowship program is a fixed two-year program for either an undergrad with work experience or a Masters’ graduate to analyze and shape macroeconomic policy for the U.S. Treasury. Our Junior Fellow will, under guidance of our research and applied economists, conduct research as well as analyze, maintain, enhance, and develop econometric analytical and forecasting models.
The program exposes fellows to multiple policy issues and provides opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills including in writing, research, oral briefing, economic policy, and statecraft.
Junior fellows are usually hired at the GS-9 level and receive standard Treasury benefits.
Following the program, fellows may pursue a range of opportunities, including employment at Treasury or elsewhere in the U.S. government, work in the private sector, or further academic studies—such as a Ph.D. in Economics.
